Saint Katherine (Saint Catherine) – Sveta Ekaterina –Света Екатерина near Ohrid (Охрид)
On the E65 highway just a few kilometers from Ohrid you will find this cave church on the side of a rocky hill located a short walking distance from St. Erasmus – Sv Erazmo. The path leading to St. Katherine is just at the left of the main entrance to the building of St. Erasmus.
The origins of this cave church are unknown but when the church was discovered, an icon of Sv. Ekaterina was found and thus this church has been named in her honor. In the Orthodox Church the common spelling of her name is Katherine whereas in the Catholic Church, Catherine is commonly used. St. Catherine is also referred to as Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Catherine of the Wheel and The Great Martyr Saint Catherine.
