Treska River – Треска Река – Treska Reka
This river is a tributary of the Vardar River. It begins it 132 kilometer journey at Mount Stogovo near the village of Drugovo (where it is called Big River, Голема Река), and flows through the Kičevo Valley (where it is called the Great River (Велика Река) and as the river heads into Skopje near Lake Matka (the Gjorce Petrov, Ѓорче Петров, side of Skopje) it is called the Treska River1.
From here the river continues its journey at the hydroelectric dam at the base of Lake Matka (just outside of Skopje) and continues for approximately 85 kilometers until it joins the Vardar River. At Lake Matka, water sports such as kayaking are quite popular.
Located within the immediate vicinity of the river is The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Monastery (Манастир Успение на Пресвета Богородица), the St. Andrew Monastery (Манастир Св. Андреја), and the Shishevski Monastery (Шишевски Манастир).
