Saint Nicholas – Sveti Nikola (Свети Никола) in Kičinica (Kichinitsa, Кичиница)
This church dedicated to St. Nicholas is located in the village of Kičinica (Kichinitsa) about 12 minutes north of the town of Mavrovo. Here you will find this walled church dedicated to St. Nicholas. The Miak (Mijak) craftsmen are responsible for this unique architecture and the impressive wood carvings.
Between 1849 and 1850, the famous icon and fresco painter, Dimitar Krstev (Димитар Крстев) also called Dičo Zograf (Дичо Зограф) from the village of Tresonče (Tresonche, Тресонче), painted icons for this church. These icons are cultural treasures and are registered in Republic Institute for Protection of Monuments. It is said that Dičo (Dicho) painted more than 2,000 icons for churches all over Macedonia, Serbia and Greece1.
