Kokino

Kokino (Кокино) – Tatićev Kamen

Kokino is a megalithic observatory from the Bronze Age discovered by Jovica Stankovski of the National Museum in Kumanovo. Kokino is located near to Staro Nagoricane, just east of Kumanovo on the Tatićev Kamen hill. Jovica gave us a personal tour in 2006. The earlier inhabitants used the terrain and shaped the rocks to track the movement of both the sun and the moon. I took the first two pictures from the nook of the top rock and if you look carefully, you can see Jovica sitting on one of the thrones below. When the sun lined up with this top rock, it would beam down on the throne. You can also see the stone markers they used, i.e. to mark the summer and winter solstices.
