St. Stephen – Sv. Stefan – Св. Стефан, Konče (Konche, Конче)
This monastery and church dedicated to St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, in the village of Konče (Konche) was built in 1366. Originally, when the church was built it was a monastery dedicated to St. Mary (Св Богородица). Hence, it is often referred to locally as the Church of the Virgin Mary. Within the walls of the monastery grounds are ruins of buildings, towers and walls from the 14th century.
Only a small fragment of the original frescoes remain, and the frescoes you see now were painted in the 18th and 19th centuries. The icons currently in the church were painted in 1921 and 1922.1
The village of Konče, the seat of the Konče municipality, is located in Eastern Macedonia about 56 kilometers south of the town of Štip (Shtip) and 24 kilometers southwest of Radoviš (Radovish).
