Elenov – Villa Marija

Elenov Winery – Винарија Еленов

The Elenov Winery, until 2016, operated at the site of the the oldest winery in the Balkans.  This historical site is where King Aleksandar Karadjordjevic of Yugoslavia and Queen Maria established their royal winery and their summer home in 1928 which they named Villa Maria. A prime location as Demir Kapija is the warmest location in all of Macedonia with at least 280 sunny days a year.

Today the modern winery has a capacity of 7 million liters making wine for local and region markets and exports to countries in the European Union and overseas to China and the USA.  They feature two main lines of wine: Villa Maria and Chateau Demir Kapija.

For the Villa Maria line they offer white wines made from Chardonnay, Riesling , Villa Maria Chardonnay, a rosé from Pinot Noir and for reds they offer wines from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Vranec varietals and they also offer the Villa Maria Cuvee from Vranec , Merlot and Pinot Noir.  The Villa Maria Pinot Noir offers an aroma of black and red current, sour cherries with a forest fruit palate. The Vranec also offers forest fruits featuring black currant, blackberry and a touch of spice.  Continuing the forest fruit trend, the Cabernet Sauvignon features black and red raspberries and a mild pepperiness.

Their premium wine is their Chateau Demir Kapija Line featuring Chardonnay, Riesling Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Vranec. The Chateau Demir Kapija Vranec, deep dark ruby in color offers black and red currants with soft spice and a touch of oak, the Cabernet Sauvignon delivers soft and pleasant wild berries and the Merlot is rich in other forest fruits, especially red raspberry.
