Lake Dojran – Дојранско Езеро – Dojransko Ezero
This is a tectonic lake and the third largest lake in Macedonia is located near the small town of Dojran in south-eastern Macedonia. At its deepest point, the lake is only 10 meters (almost 33 feet) deep and most depths run from 3 to 5 meters (10 to 16 feet). Fishermen still practice the traditional method of using Cormorants (birds) to fish. From the wood and straw houses on the lake, fishermen use these trained birds to drive the fish into their nets or baskets. Because of the climate, and other environmental factors, Dojran’s water is said to help so heal some respiratory and dermatological illnesses. Other tectonic lakes in Macedonia include Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa.
